Garmin Mobile PC offers everything you’ll find in its standalone sat-nav devices but is aimed at laptop and netbook users looking to use the larger screen of their mobile PC to deliver mapping and location services.

The Garmin nuvi 255w is a great looking device that makes full use of its 4.3-inch touchscreen panel. This is a widescreen display so 3D maps have plenty of space and as Garmin has placed the icons along the top of the screen, it’s a clutter-free way of getting from A to B.

Sat-nav has really come of age in the last couple of years and among that change is Garmin, who has just announced two new ranges in the form of the Garmin nüvi 1200 Series and Garmin 1300 Series.
Garmin has announced five new sat-nav devices split across two new ranges. Both the nüvi 1200 Series and 1300 Series come with a sleek new profile and have added features such as pedestrian mode using CityXplorer maps as standard.
Garmin may be famed only for its satnav devices, but this year it’s set to make an assault on the mobile phone market with not one but two communications devices.
First up is the Nuvifone, which was first announced last year but has been off the radar for months. It’s a touchscreen device with few physical buttons and will apparently meld iPhone-style usability with full-on Garmin satnav skills. It was originally due to go on sale towards the end of 2008, but will now launch in the second half of 2009. This could be the holy grail of satnav phones, though, so it could be well worth the wait.
Summer’s here, which means holidays, which means getting lost in some continental backwater with an outdated map, broken compass and a carload of screaming kids demanding ice cream.
