Microsoft has started to turn up the heat on the next iteration of its smartphone OS, Windows Mobile 7. We’ve known for some time that Asus would be first out of the gate with comparable hardware, with LG rumoured to also have a Windows 7 device in the offing. Now, it seems Samsung is ready to come out to play. Find out about the Asus, LG and Samsung Windows 7 smartphones after the jump…
Now, we know that Windows Mobile 7 is set to be big business for Microsoft and no doubt there are quite a few handsets in the offing. However, as of right now, Asus, LG and Samsung are the three names being touted as these three devices have been highlighted at MIX10 (Microsoft Developers Conference 2010).
Very little is known in the way of facts about the new hardware, other than they all run the Windows Mobile 7 operating system. However, the developers conference has also thrown up what it sees as the base spec for a Windows 7 device, which comprises of a Capacitive scree with at least four contact points, 5-Megapixel camera, built-in GPS, Compass, at least 256MB of RAM and 8GB or more of Flash memory.
The Asus, LG and Samsung Windows 7 smartphones will also come with DirectX 9 graphics acceleration and a minimum of an ARM7 processor, which all sounds pretty impressive to us.
As soon as we get more details on names and individual specs of the Asus, LG and Samsung Windows 7 smartphones we’ll let you know. In the meantime, take a look at the images below (more are on offer over at Engadget) and see which one takes your fancy? Let us know in the Comments below.
