The Nokia X6 is the first smartphone in the new X Series music phone from the Finnish company. It also happens to be the first smartphone from the company to sport a capacitive screen, making it rather unique and putting it in line with the Palm Pre and Apple iPhone 3Gs handsets. Find out how we got on with it in our Nokia X6 review…
The Nokia X6 has a 3.2-inch screen and uses the Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system and comes packed with the latest tech and features. It’s also a Comes With Music phone, so you can download music to the X6 or your laptop for a year for free.

In terms of style, the Nokia X6 is very much in the same league as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, The screen dominates the device but whereas on the Nokia 5800 the device was all rounded, the Nokia X6 is very much an angular design. It’s available in black and red or silver and blue, we tested the latter.
The build quality is good and solid, with the main body feeling firm in the hand. We’re a little concerned about the back cover, as the plastic feels a little thin, though. The keyguard, for getting the screen to boost into life, is also a little awkward, being rather flat against the body.
Light up the screen, though, and the Nokia X6 comes into its own. The screen is bright and crisp and whether you’re tapping out a message or scrolling through your contacts, it’ll never miss a beat. We’ve been using the handset for a couple of weeks and found it to be highly responsive and perfectly usable with the tip of your finger for poking around.
When it comes to using the Nokia X6 you’ll find it has the same Homescreen as the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, so you can load 20 contacts and thanks to the new screen, scrolling through them isĀ easy. Icons on the screen make loading apps easy too and the overall experience is positive.
With 32GB of internal memory, the Nokia X6 is set to become your entertainment system as well as your phone. The embedded music player is good and the supplied headphones more than adequate. Then there is the 5-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, which delivers decent image quality.
Verdict
The Nokia X6 has proved a reliable and likeable smartphone. Sure, it’s a lot more expensive than the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic but for anyone looking for a high-end device loaded with the latest features and more than enough memory, this is the way to go.
