The Chrome OS for netbooks hasn’t been officially unveiled yet but Acer is so confident about tis success that Jim Wong, president of the Acer IT Products division, thinks they’ll be able to sell over one million Chrome OS netbooks this year. Find out how Acer will go about this after the jump…
When it comes to netbooks, Acer is the Number One in the market with devices like the Acer Aspire One 531 and the new Acer Apsire One 532h.
Jim Wong, president of Acer IT Products division, is expecting Chrome OS to make up 10 per cen of the company’s netbook range sales by the end of the year. In an interview reported over on bloomsberg, he claims that dual-boot netbooks – Android and Windows – make up 5 per cent of Acer netbook sales. With the addition of the Chrome OS this should effectively double.
Wong said, ‘For Chrome, we’re aggressively pursuing to become one of the first, so there’s a change to the Microsoft-Intel environment.’ The report goes on to suggest that Acer sell between 12 and 15 million netbooks a year, so adding a Chrome OS netbook to the line should see sales of one million netbooks.
Acer chairman, JT Wang, previously stated that Acer is confident that they will be the first vendor to offer a Chrome-based netbook to market. The bad news is that we’re not expecting to see Acer launch such a netbook in Q3 of this year.
