Yesterday’s announcement that Ovi Maps will feature free navigation as standard will have been welcomed by Nokia fans with open arms, but as yet Ovi Maps 3.03 is only supported on 10 handsets. The biggest worry was for Nokia N900 owners, with no support for Maemo 5 devices. This is set to change, however. Read on to find out more…
When the latest version of Ovi Maps – v3.03 – was released yesterday, all the supporting phones were Symbian-based, such as the Nokia N97 Mini and the Nokia 5800. If you have a Nokia N900, which runs the Maemo 5 operating system, then Ovi Maps 3.03 won’t run on your handset.

Thankfully for many users, Nokia is rolling out support for its other models in the next few weeks, with Maemo 5 set to be among them. The Executive Vice President of Nokia, Anssi Vanjoki, pointed out that “certainly moving forward it [Ovi Maps] will support Maemo”.
This will certainly appeal to Nokia N900 users, as with no official support for a Google Maps application on Maemo, users wanting directions don’t have many alternatives other than paying for the premium services offered on older versions of Ovi Maps.

there as never ever been a paid version ov ovi maps on maemo.
the version of ovi maps is very basic with voice navigation.
its just a map with routing with limited features.
for maemo to get a version of voice guided free maps it will have to be built from ground up
