Google’s mobile operating system Android, seemingly, came out of nowhere and has gone on to become one of the fastest growing and popular mobile OSs on the market. The beauty of Android is that it is open-source, and therefore, a hell of a lot easier for developers to create for. That said, it is also an extremely slick OS in general and affords customers a completely new, and thoroughly, engaging mobile experience. In short, Android, it seems, is the way forward! Read on after the jump for the best Android phones of 2009.
HTC Hero
The HTC Hero, or the iPhone killer as it’s also known, was one of the best mobile devices to surface in 2009. The Hero, essentially, looked at what was good about the iPhone, then built on it, adding a few extras, and giving customers a more tactile and engaging format to play with. In essence, the HTC Hero is an app oriented device that lets its users customise its 7 home screens with whatever apps, widgets, and shortcuts they want - in this sense, you can really make the device your own. In addition, the device sports a 5 megapixel camera, is beautifully designed, and is so user-intuitive, its like an extension of your actual body!
Samsung i7500 Galaxy
Samsung have been making phones for quite sometime now, and the addition of the Android OS in its i7500 Galaxy is a match made in heaven. The device itself features a 3-inch AMOLED (320 X 480 pixels, 16M color) capacitive touchscreen, as well as a 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus and LED Flash. In essence, the Galaxy is a powerful device, that’ll satisfy the needs of even the most tech-savvy user. It is fully web enabled, with Quad Band GSM, Dual Band 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE, WiFI, Bluetooth, and GPS, which means you’ll always have access to the internet, wherever you are.
HTC Magic
As we said, HTC have been something of a phenomenon this year, and the HTC Magic is no exception from this rule. Featuring a powerful Android OS device features a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, a 3.15 Megapixel camera with autofocus, all of which, is layered atop of HTC’s TouchSense UI. In short, this is one hell of a device, and its fully customisable, just like the Hero, so you can really personalise it to your exact needs and requirements. In addition, the Magic also features Quad Band GSM, Dual Band 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Motorola CLIQ
One of the strongest aspects of the CLIQ, besides its OS, is its full slide out QWERTY keyboard, which are becoming extremely popular at the moment as reports suggest that users sometimes prefer a keypad to a touchscreen - well, with the CLIQ, you get the best of both worlds. In addition, you also get an ample 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display, a 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus, and some seriously high-end connectivity in the shape of Quad Band GSM, Dual Band 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
HTC Dream
HTC has single handedly pioneered the Android OS, and have solidified its reputation as a solid OS in the hearts and minds of both customers and manufacturers alike. And, as you’d expect, the HTC Dream is no exception. In a similar manner to the Hero and Magic, the Dream is another example of how far HTC has come in such a short period of time. The device features and gorgeous 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, customisable home screens, 3.15 Megapixel camera, and access to the ever growing Android MarketPlace, where you can pick up thousands of useful apps, widgets and games. Connectivity wise, the Dream features Quad Band GSM, Dual Band 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
