The Nvidia ION 2 could well act as a discrete graphics solution for netbooks. Find out more about the Nvidia ION 2 after the jump…
A story has popped up on digitimes claiming that Nvidia has already started taking orders for its Nvidia ION 2 GPU chipset. According to the story, the chip will work with Intel Atom N450, Intel Atom N470, Intel Atom D510 or Intel Atom D410 CPUs and related (Tiger Point) chipsets.
There is still some debate as to how this will work in practise, as while the Nvidia ION 2 is intended to work with the Intel Atom N450 and N470 processors, these chips come with integrated graphics built in, so exactly how the ION 2 will work is something of a mystery at this point.
It is expected that Acer will be the first manufaturer to update its netbook range with the Nvidia ION 2 chipset.
