Nokia to launch one Maemo device in 2010?
Rating: 1.5

It looks like Nokia is playing cautious with its entry into the Maemo market, as a report has surfacing claiming that the company will only be launching one more Maemo 5 device in 2010. Dipping its toe in the Linux water or cautious marketing move? Find out more about Maemo 5 in 2010 after the jump…

Nokia may have a surprise hit on its hands with the Nokia N900 – it’s 3.5-inch touchscreen internet tablet with slide-out QWERTY keyboard running the Maemo 5 Linux-based OS. However, Nokia doesn’t look in any rush to follow up the success as a report claims the company is set to only launch one more Maemo 5 device in 2010.

Now, Nokia stated a few weeks back that it would be running a dual-platform strategy – running Symbian S60 found in the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nokia E71 – alongside its Maemo 5 offerings – the Nokia N900 to date.

Now, reports suggest this slow-down may be due to Nokia cutting back on its R&D team. However, it seems more likely that the Nokia N900 has been such a success that having a series of follow-up devices wasn’t in place. Whatever the reason, it looks like a great deal of speculation and anticipation is going to be placed on this sole Maemo 5 device.

So, what type of Maemo 5 device do you hope to see – something like the Nokia E71 or a follow-up to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Whatever form it takes, it looks like Nokia has tapped into a secret new formula.
