Well, it seems that a compatibility chart has been put together that allows you to find out whether your netbook is 100 per cent ready to rumble or whether there will be upgrade problems. The Chromium netbook operating system is very much a work in progress and getting it to work straightaway on your netbook isn’t without problems. So much so that only a few netbooks on the market can run the OS with ease. The biggest problem at this stage seems to be that Chromium OS only works with SSD and Flash drives and not mechanical HDD.

However, over on the Chromium Projects site, the guys have been busy putting together a list of the devices that can be run with ease. It’s not only the SSD issue that a problem, it’s also the choice of Wi-Fi chipset, as it seems if your netbook comes with a Broadcom chipset you won’t get Wi-Fi support at this stage.

* Acer ships these models with either a Broadcom or Atheroes Wi-Fi card, so check which one you have before deciding to upgrade.
