Nokia has had downloading on devices such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic for sometime but Apple seems to be ready to play catchup as BBC iPlayer is set to appear on the Apple iPhone 3GS.
Gadget site electripig has been sent information from what is reported to be a press pack that gives viewing figures for iPlayer as well as what looks like a BBC iPlayer iPhone app. What’s more, it looks like the app will allow for live search, as well as the option to download content as well as juts stream it online.

The report also suggests that 3G streaming on the Apple iPhone 3Gs will be switched off for BBC iPlayer as the screenshots so the app working over Wi-Fi exclusively. However, we’ll have to wait and see what the final app offers.
None of these features are currently available to users of the current iPlayer app for iPhone, so being able to get more instant TV will be a great step forward. There seems to be little in the way of timescale for when the app will appear on the Apple iPhone 3Gs. It seems the app is advanced so we could see it appearing some time in the New Year.
