Samsung Genio Touch Review
Rating: 3.5

Samsung Genio Touch is here to remind you that life is for living and that having a splash of colour is fun! What’s more, for it’s bargain price the Samsung Genio Touch packs in some serious features. Find out how well it handles with our Samsung Genio Touch review…

What’s this, Samsung has released its own version of the Palm Pre? At first glance the two have a similar style, which is all down to the pebble-shape design. However, once you get the Samsung Genio Touch in your hand you’ll see it’s quite a different beast completely.

The Samsung Genio Touch has a 2.8-inch touchscreen for instance that has a rather basic 240 x 320 pixel resolution. It looks nice and bright and Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface looks remarkably good on it. The bright design is pleasing on the eye and the solid plastic casing feels good in the hand. We like the shape, as it is easy to slip into your pocket.

The TouchWiz UI is easy to get to grips with and gives you three different Homescreens to fill with your favourite apps and widgets. Samsung offers 27 widgets, so you can have one screen simply for Contacts for example, so hooking up through Facebook and MySpace.

When it comes to core specs, you won’t find 3G but the GPRS connection on our Samsung Genio Touch review unit worked well enough.

There is a camera on the back that is only 2-Megapixels, which is rather basic these days but it does handle video, which we like. With just 50MB of internal memory you won’t be able to store too many photos but there is a micro SD slot, so you can add up to a further 8GB of storage. Then there is the MP3 player and FM Radio with RDS, so you’ll find plenty of fun to be had.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a PAYG phone that punches above it’s weight, then the Samsung Genio Touch is worth considering. It isn’t going to set the world alight in terms of tech spec, but it’s a nice device for those on a tight budget.
