The Nokia N900 tablet started to ship out of Nokia’s Espoo factories this week and the Maemo driven device looks like being the biggest launch event for Nokia this year. Now we know the device is coming, attention has switched to who will actually be carrying the handset. Firm favourites are Vodafone, find out why after the jump…
The Nokia N900 is a 3.5-inch touchscreen device with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that comes with 32GB of internal memory and uses the Maemo 5 operating system. A Linux-based OS, this open source platform is seen by many as a move away from the Symbian S60 platform and a potential new direction for Nokia.
So, who will be carrying the handset? Well, it seems that O2 has already thrown its hand out, admitting to TechRadar that it won’t be offering the Nokia N900. So, where does that leave the other operators?
The Nokia N900 will be launched in the next week or so and it seems that Vodafone Ireland is first out of the gate, admitting they will be carrying the device. Vodafone UK is being a little more coy, suggesting that anyone interested should keep an eye on their ‘Coming Soon‘ page. However, nothing has shown up there yet.
As we noted the other day, you can always go through a third-party service and pick up the Nokia N900 that way. If this sounds the way for you, you’ll find that Orange and O2 are likely to offer some great deals , with both offering a range of 18 - 24 month contracts. For example, one Orange 24 month contract offers 600 minutes and 500 texts for a rather decent £30 per month deal. A similar minutes and text allowance will set you back £35 a month on O2.
So, will Vodafone be carrying the Nokia N900 and if they do so, will you be tempted? The Nokia N900 has a SIM free price of £499 (inc. VAT) from Nokia Online.

Nokia doesn’t have factories in Espoo. Their headquarters are there.
In Finland they have fartory in Salo where they produce their high-end devices. I assume N900 is produced there.
