Is your Apple iPhone coming to the end of its O2 contract? Thinking of taking your beloved Apple over to the Orange to check out it’s tarriffs and fair use policy? Well, it seems that O2 is making things easy, as the company is offering to unlock out-of-contract Apple iPhones. Find out why O2 is unlocking iPhones after the jump…
There are any number of reasons why you’d want to take your Apple iPhone and switch to another provider. It may be the better tarriffs some users will be getting on Orange, then again it may be the better coverage you may well get in your area. Still, O2 making it easier to switch does seem a little odd.

In a statement to The Times, Matthew Key, the head of O2, confirmed that “once the iPhone becomes available on other UK networks, we will allow O2 customers to unlock their iPhones.” It seems that all you need to do is take your Apple iPhone into any O2 store and they’ll unlock the device there and then.
It’s not only monthly contract users who can benefit as Apple iPhone owners on PAYG will be able to take their handset to a rival network after 12 months too, for a £14.97 fee. So, will you be switching to Orange with your Apple iPhone when your contract runs out or will you being seeing what bargains can be had by haggling with O2? Let us know how you’re going to play it in the Comments below.
