Which is the best big screen phone around, is it the HTC HD2 or is it the LG BL40? The last few years has seen the mobile phone industry come on leaps and bounds, both in terms of design and technology - we’ve seen the ascension of touch screen user interfaces, massive storage capabilities, improved connectivity, and bigger and better screens. So much so, that mobile phones are more like PCs than ever before. Fortunately, the two devices featuring in this stat-clash are no exception.
Both devices, the HTC HD2 and the LG BL40, have huge screens and are clearly aimed at the more media-oriented user. However, both devices also feature a wealth of applications, features, and specifications that make them serious contenders for title of best big-screened device on the market. Read on to see which device wins the battle of the big screen devices.

Display
While the HTC has the bigger screen at 4.3-inches compared to the LG’s 4-inch one, the LG will display 16 million colours, which is decidedly more impressive than the HTC’s 65,000 colour display. Both devices feature Accelerometer sensors which allow auto-rotate and proximity sensors for auto turn-off, as well as multi-touch input capabilities. So, in this sense they are evenly matched. However, because the LG displays more colours, it has to be the overall winner in this first dual.
Winner: LG BL40
Operating Systems
The HTC HD2 is powered by the powerful Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system, whereas the LG BL40 uses an S-class OS. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner in this aspect of the stat clash, and that is unanimously the HTC. The LG’s S-Class OS will not allow you to download third party applications, which is basically heresy in this day and age, and is no way near as powerful or intuitive as the HTC’s 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Windows 6.5 processor. Granted, the LG’s OS is novel at first, particularly the spinning cube GUI aspect. However, you will quickly realise that it is just simply that, a novelty.
Winner: HTC HD2
Onboard Features
Granted, features aren’t as important these days as the majority can be downloaded as applications. Nevertheless, it’s still nice to have a few on board goodies to sweeten the deal. In this context, it is again the HTC that is the superior device featuring Pocket Office, HTC Peep, HTC Footprints, Voice Memo, and full GPS. Compare this to the LG, which has a document viewer, 3D image gallery, and a TV out and it’s obvious the HTC has nothing to worry about, particularly since you can also load the HTC up with third party applications as well.
Winner: HTC HD2
Camera
Both devices feature a 5 megapixel camera, which will obviously get you some serious clarity in your shots, particularly once you have them loaded up on the devices’ large displays. That said, the HTC HD2 does have slightly better pixel stats at 2592 x 1944 compared to the LG’s 2560 x 1920, which means you’ll be able to get slightly more detail and clarity out of the HTC’s camera facilities, and for this reason, it is the HTC that wins the battle of the cameras.
Winner: HTC HD 2
Connectivity
The ability to access the internet is probably one of the most important issues for anyone when they’re considering buying a new device. Both the HTC and LG have good connectivity, and in general, both tick all the right boxes having GPS, Wireless, HSCSD, EDGE, and 3G capabilities. However, the HTC’s connectivity specs are marginally better than the LG’s. For example, the HTC features a Class 12 GPS and EDGE connections compared to the LG’s Class 10. The HTC device will also allow you to use it as a Wi-Fi router, which is certainly a handy feature when you’re away from home and need an internet connection quickly.
Winner: HTC HD 2

Overall, the HTC HD2 is easily the superior device featuring better features, specifications and capabilities across the board. Both of the devices are good, and you’d be making a solid investment with either, it’s just in this context the HTC is the better hand set.
