HTC seemingly came out of nowhere, and after an initial bumpy start, the phone company has gone on to produce some absolutely amazing devices, such as the HTC Hero, the HTC Touch Pro, and the HTC Pure. And as you’d expect, the HTC HD2 is no exception, boasting some serious design features, user intuitive controls, and enough built in options and widgets to keep you amused for hours on end. So, with this in mind, lets take a look at what you can expect from the HTC HD2…
Display
One of the most striking aspects of the HTC HD2 is its huge 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display, which is certainly one of the largest displays currently available on the market. In addition, the cinematic experience created by the large dimensions and the razor sharp pixels, which clock in at 400 x 800 WVGA, makes the HTC HD2 the perfect device for viewing videos, data rich web sites, and text documents. Needless to say, you’d be hard pressed to a find a better display anywhere – in fact, in terms of detail and looks, the HTC HD2 even has one up on the iPhone, and that’s saying something.
User interface
Like the HTC Hero, the HTC HD2 features HTC Sense, which effectively allows you to customise your desktop with the widgets, apps, and programs you want. In this sense, the HTC HD2 is a serious piece of kit, much like the Hero. What we like about HTC Sense is that it puts you in control of how your device is set up – so you can have everything you need, in the places you require them to be.
Additionally, the incorporation of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 OS means that you’ll have enough processing power to run all the apps and programs you wish. Overall, HTC really do know how to put together a user interface, and the one on the HTC HD2 is no exception, taking some inspiration from the Hero and adding a few extras to really set it apart from the competition.

Media capabilities
Media capabilities are extremely important factors when you’re considering buying a new device. Fortunately, HTC seem to know what they’re doing in that department. The device features a 5-Megapixel camera with auto-focus and built in LED flash, Windows Media Player, FM Radio, as well as support for practically every kind of video and audio file format. The incorporation of an expandable hard drive means that you can potentially upgrade its storage space to accommodate the needs of even the most demanding media user.

Connectivity
Probably one of the most important aspects of modern mobile devices is their ability to connect to the internet, which is now a necessity for both professional and casual users thanks to the popularity of social networking, cloud computing, and email. The HTC HD2 has built in 3G, Wireless, Edge and GPRS meaning you’ll be able to get on line wherever you are.
The devices built in browser is the superb Opera, which means browsing the internet is a pleasure, allowing you to view web pages in their full clarity and at break neck speeds. Needless to say, we were impressed by the HTC HD2’s level of connectivity.
Design
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt about HTC over the last year, it’s that they know how to design a good looking device. Both the Hero and the HTC HD were seriously desirable devices – and one again, the HTC HD2 is no exception. The device itself is a beautifully designed and sophisticated device, featuring polished edges and a smooth rectangular design. In addition, the internal design and overall usability of the device is second-to-none. In short, this is one of the best looking devices we’ve seen in quite some time, if you’re thinking about getting a new device, and don’t really want to fork out for iPhone tariffs, you would be hard pressed to find a better alternative than the HTC HD2.
