Orange has revealed a rather broad and comprehensive pricing plan for when it starts offering the Apple iPhone 3Gs with pricing rolled out across business, consumer and even Pay As You Go users. However, how well does it stack up against the Apple iPhone from 02 pricing? Find out for yourself after the jump as we weigh up the numbers…
If you were hoping for a price war from the emergence of Orange carrying the Apple iPhone 3Gs then you’re in for something of a disappointment, as the tariff for the Apple iPhone 3GS is pretty much in line with O2.

For instance, with 18 month tariffs, Orange costs just 2p less than O2 for the cheapest package (£29.36 compared to £29.38) while on all its other packages, up to the most expensive at £73.40 18 month deal, it shaves off just 1p (O2 asks £73.41).
However, start to dig a little deeper and you’ll find some bargains to be had. If you start with the basic price of the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB, for instance, you’ll find that it is slightly cheaper to buy from Orange, but at £96.50 you’ll only save 39p. When it comes to the basic tariff, Orange offers 150 minutes and 250 messages, while O2 hands over 72 minutes and 125 messages.
When it come to PAYG, Orange has a far simpler structure, as you pay for the device – the cheapest being £343 for the Apple iPhone 3Gs 8GB version, up to £539 (inc. VAT) for the Apple iPhone 3Gs 32Gb version. You then pay data fees in accordance with your Monkey, Dolphin, Canary, Racoon or Camel account as per usual.

I think that the arrival of the iPhone on Tesco will certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons. Tesco Mobile piggyback off the O2 network for service anyway, so the millions of adopters now not opting for iPhone Orange deals will give them something to think about. Finally a price war? I hope so!
