ZTE F102 review
Rating: 3

The ZTE F102 will set you back the princely sum of £29.99 on Three Pay As You Go. With that price tag, clearly it isn’t going to rock your world with its advanced features. But like other handsets on 3 it can be used with 3’s Skype and Windows Live Messenger deals – both are pre-installed - as well as functioning as a fully fledged 3G handset.

The ZTE F102 is a fairly small and light phone, weighing just 80g and measuring 12.7mm x 106.1mm x 47mm. There is 128MB of built in memory and you can put a microSD card into a covered slot on the left edge to add more storage.

The screen is a bit on the small side for serious Web browsing – we measured it at 2-inches across diagonal corners. And the general features list is not overwhelming. Of course there’s no Wi-Fi, and the camera shoots at just 2-Megapixels. There is no front camera for two way video calling. There is a voice recorder, alarm, calendar, stopwatch, calculator and currency converter too, but not a great deal by way of fancy extras.

Build quality is solid if uninspiring. The plastic casing with silver highlights is appealing enough, and the number buttons are rather nicely arranged so that there is an upward curve at each end. The buttons depress well and are responsive but those with stubby fingers might find them a bit small. Pressing each one causes the handset to emanate a different tone of ‘plink’. You can disable these in the profile.

Verdict
The market is rather busy at this price and the ZTE F102 offers nothing special. It is, though, solidly built and looks like it should be dependable.

Best features
Solid build
Easy-access microSD card slot

Not so good
Laklustre camera
Small screen
Some may find the keyboard fiddly
