The Samsung Omnia II is powered by a Windows 6.5 OS, while the Samsung Omnia HD uses a Symbian S60 OS. While there’s no official consensus on which OS is “better” - it’s usually just down to personal opinion - there are some marked differences between to the two OSs that are worth considering.
For instance, Symbian provides better support for java applications when compared to Windows Mobile 6.5. Looks & Storage
Both the devices on trial are pretty good looking handsets. The Samsung Omnia II is has a slightly rounder demeanor when compared to the squarer looking Samsung HD. Objectively speaking, it would be difficult to say which is the more aesthetically pleasing overall - beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all…
However, in terms of features the Omnia II does have a few advantages over the Samsung HD. Firstly, you have the option of switching between Windows Mobile User Interface, or Samsung’s own TouchWiz. Additionally, with the Omnia II you’ll be able to expand the devices storage up to 42GB, which is twice that of the Samsung HD.
Winner: Samsung Omnia II
Camera and Video
While the Samsung Omnia II has a built in 5 megapixel camera, which is certainly adequate by today’s standards, it simply cannot complete with the Samsung i8910 HD’s 8 megapixel behemoth of a camera. Additionally, the Samsung i8910 HD allows you to shoot videos in HD quality - well, what YouTube classes as HD quality anyways. In this context then, there can only ever be one winner and it’s the Samsung i8910 HD, which has one of the finest camera and video functions we’ve ever seen.
