Stat Clash: Samsung Omnia II V Samsung i8910 HD

Samsung is on a roll at the moment, releasing a host of new smartphones that pack in the latest features, The Samsung Omnia II and the Samsung i8910 HD are just two of the latest but what do they offer that’s truly different? We thought a stat clash: Samsung Omnia II versus Samsung i8910 HD would be the only way to find out…

It doesn’t seem that long since mobile phones were merely just that, mobile phones. However, nowadays they offer so much more - you use them as MP3 players, to watch films on, for browsing the internet, and even for doing your shopping. In short, mobile devices are fast becoming mobile PCs, containing everything you’d expect to find on a top of the range computer and more.

Coincidentally, the Samsung Omnia II and the Samsung i8910 HD are no exception to this rule. Both sport absolutely gigantic screens, powerful processors, and masses of storage space making them perfect devices for the more media-centric user. But which device is the best? We compiled a stat-clash to find out which one is ultimately the better device.

Operating System
The Samsung Omnia II is powered by a Windows 6.5 OS, while the Samsung Omnia HD uses a Symbian S60 OS. While there’s no official consensus on which OS is “better” - it’s usually just down to personal opinion - there are some marked differences between to the two OSs that are worth considering.

For instance, Symbian provides better support for java applications when compared to Windows Mobile 6.5. In addition, Symbian also provides better capabilities for ordering and customising you’re applications screen and desktop. In short, the Symbian based OS is better equipped for dealing with media and browsing the web. And in this context, it’s the clear victor.
Winner: Samsung i8910 HD

Displays
Neither of the devices would be considered small - both have 3.7 inch screens, which is pretty large, even by iPhone standards. Nevertheless, the Samsung Omnia II is the smaller of the two devices, measuring in at 118 x 60 x 11.9 mm. Both devices feature 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive screens. Perhaps the only thing that sets the two, display wise, is the fact that the Samsung HD offers the user the option to view things in High Definition. And in this context, it is the better device - but only just…

Looks & Storage
Both the devices on trial are pretty good looking handsets. The Samsung Omnia II is has a slightly rounder demeanor when compared to the squarer looking Samsung HD. Objectively speaking, it would be difficult to say which is the more aesthetically pleasing overall - beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all…

However, in terms of features the Omnia II does have a few advantages over the Samsung HD. Firstly, you have the option of switching between Windows Mobile User Interface, or Samsung’s own TouchWiz. Additionally, with the Omnia II you’ll be able to expand the devices storage up to 42GB, which is twice that of the Samsung HD.
Winner: Samsung Omnia II

Camera and Video
While the Samsung Omnia II has a built in 5 megapixel camera, which is certainly adequate by today’s standards, it simply cannot complete with the Samsung i8910 HD’s 8 megapixel behemoth of a camera. Additionally, the Samsung i8910 HD allows you to shoot videos in HD quality - well, what YouTube classes as HD quality anyways. In this context then, there can only ever be one winner and it’s the Samsung i8910 HD, which has one of the finest camera and video functions we’ve ever seen.
Winner: Samsung i8910 HD

Overall, these are both seriously good mobile devices supporting a wide range of applications and advanced processing power. However, in the context of this stat clash, the Samsung i8910 HD is the clear victor. What do you think - have we got it right, or do you think the Samsung Omnia II is the best Samsung smartphone out there? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.

i8910 better by many miles , for sure.
The initial setting up is ultra complicated and awesome to a first timer but well worth the effort
