Microsoft announced that it would be releasing Windows Mobile 6.5 at this year’s Mobile World Congress back in February. Orange, LG and HTC have already shown there support for Microsoft’s new OS, but what does a new operating system mean for mobile users, and what exactly are the benefits of such an update? We look at the Top Five reasons to get excited about the imminent arrival of Windows Mobile 6.5,,,
Improved home screen
Windows Mobile 6.5, like many of the new mobile devices released this year, is all about keeping you up-to-date with what’s going on in the world, and by ‘world’ we mean the web. The new home screen has been likened to a dashboard-type experience, putting the most important items, such as email, texts, missed calls and calender appointments right where you need them, on your home screen.
Internet Explorer
According to third party research, Microsoft’s new internet explorer supports the execution of up to 48 per cent more assigned tasks than any other of the other browsers and devices tested. This is quite an impressive claim, and one you can test out for yourself as this new Internet Explorer will be on all new Windows 6.5 devices
My Phone
The new OS will also include My Phone, a service which allows you to store and manage data, such as contacts, emails, and pictures on a secure password protected web-based service. My Phone features automatic syncing, which means all you data, new and old, is stored safely online as soon as you add it to your device, which means all your vital info is always safe, even if you lose your phone.
Windows Marketplace
Everybody loves apps, they’re kind of a big deal… Fortunately, Microsoft Marketplace will be available on all new Windows 6.5 devices, and with 20,000 applications already built, it looks like you could be spending quite a bit of time there, trying them all out. The new Marketplace, which is accessed by entering a user name and password, will allow users to quickly shop around, download, and personalise their device with all the apps they’ll ever need.
The new LG GM7300
Okay, so this device isn’t out yet, but when it does eventually land it’ll feature Windows 6.5 and all its user intuitive features to boot, such as one click email set up. But, if you can’t wait until then, you should probably check out the equally impressive LG Shine KE970, which will almost certainly allow for an update to Windows 6.5 once it’s readily available.
