The Samsung N140 netbook is essentially an upgrade of the Samsung N110 and brings with it the same 10.1-inch screen, netbook spec and user-friendly keyboard. It’s certainly a different look than can be found on the Samsung N310. However, this time Samsung is claiming a 9-hour battery life. Find out how well the Nokia N140 netbook handles with our full review…
The Samsung N140 netbook has the same look as the Samsung N110 but with the addition of a silver trim around the sides of the casing and the moving of the card reader and power buttons to the front of the casing.
The build quality of the Samsung N140 is great and this 1.3kg machine feels good to the touch. That said, it’s not as robust as the original Samsung NC10, which felt more solid and firm around the hinges.
The same 10.1-inch LED screen is in place that delivers a standard resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. However, you’ll find a neat little app that allows you to switch the screen to 1366 x 768 pixels when you want to watch movies in true widescreen, for example.
The keyboard is the same 92 per cent full-size that we had on the earlier models. However, the redesigned trackpad is larger and as it mirrors the shape of the screen, makes scrolling around web sites and documents a whole lot easier.
Where this netbook really excels is in terms of battery life. While the Samsung N110 will deliver 6-hours with ease, Samsung has tweaked the design of the N140 so you’ll now easily get 9-hours from this machine. We found the battery life of the Samsung N140 to be simply stunning, allowing us to work away from mains power for a full working day without ever getting worried we’d need to re-charge.
This release come with an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1024MB of memory and 160GB hard drive and runs Windows XP. However, we’d wait for a Windows 7 version as it is bound to offer a little more for your money.
Verdict
The Samsung N140 is a good machine and while the extra battery life is a bonus, there is little here to make anyone who has already invested in a Samsung N110 to upgrade. As a first netbook it’s a great offering at a decent price but the size and format is starting to look a little dated.

This may not be the freshest netbook design around but the keyboard is comfortable, the battery life impressive and the specification great value for the price

Just bought this and its a shade better than N110. It offers Wifi ‘n’ Draft, has Non Glossy Matte Screen, Charegable USB & is the best in the AtomN270/280-WinXP Netbook. The NC10 was good but got tweaked to a better N110 and now they have even tweaked this to a super N140. There’s just nothing wrong with this netbook - am using it since five days already and everything is just perfect.
