Rumours have been circulating online about new tablet PC from Microsoft in production. The new tablet, tipsters believe might be the new Tablet PC / Surface combination. The Microsoft Courier, according to sources, could well be with us at the start of next year. Find out all about the Microsoft Courier after the jump…
Are we about to get a bespoke tablet from Microsoft a lot sooner than anyone thought? A video has been leaked showing a new tablet called the Courier, although on some sites it is referred to as the Codex.
The video of the device was recorded by Microsoft partner Pioneer Studios and shows a prototype of a clamshell-type device with two colour 7-inch touchscreens connected by a hinge.
Based on a second Courier video clip on the website Gizmodo posted on September 29, it’s thought the Courier does not have any kind of keyboard and depends completely on handwriting recognition software for entering text. Also more is revealed about the journaling model around which Courier’s user interface seems to be based.
‘Journals’ is thought be connected to InkSeine, a Microsoft Research project somewhere between the research stages and creation of the prodct. Microsoft’s describes InkSeine’s goal as: “to completely rethink the user interface for tablet computers.” Similar to Windows Journal, but with souped up features such as the ability to search from ink and to easily drag hyperlinks for documents and web pages into your notes.
Microsoft is not commenting on Courier or offering a possible timetable for the release of any kind of new Tablet PC, manufactured by Microsoft or its OEM partners.
