The LG BL40 Chocolate is the fourth phone to be released under LG’s Black Label Series and in many ways is the most ambitious yet. The 4-inch screen, quirky design and revolutionary look will split opinions but is it a good phone? Check out our LG BL40 Chocolate review to discover….
The LG BL40 Chocolate is a bizarre looking phone. Dominated by its 4-inch screen, LG is trying to push the boundaries of what a touchscreen should be. Does it succeed? Well, apart from looking a little ludicrous there is no denying the build quality and feel of this phone.
The LG BL40 Chocolate has a touchscreen with a 21:9 aspect ratio display, which means you’ll be able to watch movies and view websites in comfort, rather than trying to work out what is going on. Movies look amazing but as most widescreen content is scaled for a 16:9 aspect ratio, you will find banding top and bottom of the screen is back!
The big screen is also great for making the most of apps and tools, as there is extra space to really make the most of them with having to be constantly tapping into sub-menus.
A good example if when capturing video and taking images using the 5-Megapixel camera. You’ll find a full-sized viewfinder is fitted but there is still space on the screen for good-sized function buttons, making it a joy to use.
There are downsides to the size of the LG BL40 Chocolate, as it won’t find in your jeans pocket and battery life proved less than ideal – you’ll need to charge it every day if you’re to use the screen on its brightest settings.
The LG S-Class interface is smooth and while the screen isn’t the most responsive, you’ll be able to use tap out emails and texts at a fair speed. We browsing looks good but once again, it proved a little sluggish in places.
Verdict
The LG BL40 Chocolate may look ridiculous but there is no denying that LG has put together a highly usable and likeable phone in the BL40 Chocolate.
