The Toshiba NB200-11H is one of the most striking and appealing netbooks to hit the market in recent months. Toshiba has done away with its dull black plastic in favour of silver and brown satin finish that looks fantastic. Check out Toshiba NB200-11H review to see if it lives up to expectations.
Toshiba was late to the netbook game, releasing its first netbook, the 8.9-inch NB100 a good year after the market exploded. The Toshiba NB200-11H is its second generation device and takes a completely different styling and approach. We’d go so far as to say it gives the Samsung NC10 and Samsung N110 netbooks a good run for their money.
For starters, it now sports a standard 10.1-inch panel with 1024 x 600-pixel resolution. The LED panel us one of the sharpest and brightest we’ve seen, making this a genuine pleasure to use.
It’s not just the screen the NB200 excels at, as the keyboard is a marvel. The keys are of a good size and being a chiclet keyboard,in that the keys are individually mounted and push through a solid frame, they have plenty of space around them. This keyboard is a genuine pleasure to use and makes typing, even on the move, so much easier to handle.
The touchpad is of a good size, as are the mouse buttons, making this one of the more comfortable netbooks on the market.
The six-cell battery on our review unit protrudes from the back of the netbook, which makes it easier to carry around but does make it awkward to just slide into your briefcase. However, it does mean you’ll be able to use this netbook for in excess of seven hours.
We were impressed with how incredibly quiet the whole machine was. When it comes to base specification it falls very much in to the standard netbook market, coming with an Intel Atom N280 processor and backed by 1024MB of memory. The Windows XP operating system loads smoothly and the whole system is a pleasure to use. Storage is a standard 160GB hard drive, which has be partitioned in to two equal sized partitions.
Verdict
The Toshiba NB200-11H is as striking a netbook to use and it is to look at. We love the touch and feel of this machine and while the protruding battery detracts from the overall finish, the sheer quality of the NB200-11H makes it one of the best, if priciest, netbooks around.
