Apple has sold 5.2 million iPhones in three months, helping to push the company’s third quarter profits to record levels for a non-Christmas quarter. Apparently the recession doesn’t effect the likes of Real Madrid and Apple. Find out what Steve Jobs’ reaction was after the jump…
Apple’s just announced its third quarter profits for the three months up to June 27 thanks to an astonishing increase in iPhone and Mac sales. The iPhone sold a remarkable 5.2 million iPhones in just three months, which is a phenomenal 626 per cent unit growth over the previous year’s figures.

Sales for Apple’s Mac products are also up, with Apple selling 2.6 million Macs in the three months. That’s “only” a four per cent increase, which seems small to the iPhone’s comparatively enormous rise, but it’s still a recession-defying statistic.
With reference to the iPhone sales Apple CEO Steve Jobs raved: “We’re thrilled to have sold over 5.2 million iPhones during the quarter and users have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications from our App Store in its first year.”
As for the iPod, well, that did see a dip, with Apple shifting “just” 10.2 million units in the quarter – a figure that’s down seven per cent from last year’s statistics.
