BenQ isn’t a name normally associated with netbooks, but the BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook, changes that. Aside from having what seems like an interminably long name, the BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook also - as its title suggests - is environmentally friendly to boot. So, does it forgo the features in favour of hugging trees? Read on to find out…
The BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook’s big feature, as you may have guessed from the name, is its eco-stature. Rivalling Al Gore for enviro-friendliness, at least 25 per cent of the material used to make the BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook have been recycled. Even the ink used is soy based!
Enough gushing about its green credentials, though. The BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook has a spec list to match its eco-awareness. First up it has a six-cell battery that’ll last a quoted eight hours. Nothing too spectacular there, until you factor in BenQ’s “Q-Charge” function that gives you six hours of use from one hour’s charge.
Elsewhere the BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook has an 11.6-inch, 1366×768-pixel display with LED backlight, an Intel Atom Processor Z520/Z530, Windows XP Home Edition, up to 2GB of RAM and either a 32GB solid state drive or 500GB hard drive. Naturally, you get the usual netbook extras - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a 1.3-megapixel camera and the option of built-in 3.75G HSDPA.
The BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook looks set for a European release later this year, and should retail from around £330. Whether it can match the likes of the Acer Aspire One, Samsung N110 and Dell Mini 10 remains to be seen. In the meantime check out our BenQ Joybook Lite U121 Eco netbook gallery below.
