Samsung S3500 review
Rating: 3.5

The Samsung S3500 is a PAYG phone but at first glance you wouldn’t think so, as Samsung has put together an impressive and stylish look. What’s more, it has a great feel to it that makes it feel comfortable in the hand. Check out our review of the Samsung S3500 and find out whether this is the ideal PAYG phone…

The Samsung S3500 is a neat and trim slider phone that has a great feel in the hand. The plastic used is silver but it’s thick and has the smooth finish. The slider action is good and exposes a decent sized numberpad.

The keys have a brushed aluminium effect, so you won’t find your thumb slipping s you text. We found it a comfortable phone to use for texting and for calls as it has a decent weight to it.

The phone has an overall weight of 95g and comes with a 2.2-inch screen, which is a decent size with a QVGA resolution. We found the screen bright and easy to view. The interface is equally bright, some would say garish, but it’s easy to get to grips with and covers everything you’ll need from an entry-level phone like this.

This is a quad-band GPRS phone, so lacks the obvious 3G connections for fast internet access. Other compromises include the use of a 2-Megapixel camera, but on the plus side we found it easy to use and sharing photos with your laptop is simple

However, on the plus side, there is FM stereo and music player on board. Then there is a microSD slot, which can take up to 8GB of storage. The Samsung S3500 uses a proprietary connector for hooking up the charger that also doubles as the headphone input, which can be a bit frustrating as you can’t use standard 3.5mm jack headphones.

Verdict
The Samsung S3500 offers a great deal of style and usability for not a lot of money. It has a nice tactile feel to it and the phone proved highly responsive. Sure, it’s not going to win an awards for originality but for a low-cost PAYG phone, it’s a great option.
