The Samsung i8910 HD carries its 3.7-inch screen proudly. That is, after all, the interface to all its multimedia richness, offering via its 360 x 640 pixels a bright, sharp and clear view of a wide range of services. So, is it the smartphone everyone has been expecting it to be? Read our review of the Samsung i8910 HD to find out…
The Samsung i8910 HD smartphone runs Symbian S60 5th edition – the version of S60 that supports touch input. There is a superb qwerty touch keyboard, a good number pad style one, and less good handwriting recognition. The accelerometer switches the screen between wide and tall modes as you swivel the phone. Wi-Fi and GPS complement the to 7.2Mbps. Web browsing and photo viewing are particular treats.
On the latter front the Samsung i8910 HD sports an 8-Megapixel camera complete with face detection, smile detection and blink detection. There is a front camera for video calling.
With a choice of 8GB or 16GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for adding more this phone can double up as a portable music player fairly nicely. There is a 3.5mm headset connector on the top edge of the phone so that the earpiece does not snag your pocket when you are in music mode.
Samsung’s Widgets make another appearance in this handset. You can drag application shortcuts onto the main screen from a side bar. In fact there are three main screens, accessed by tapping at icons. This means you can have quite a large array of services no more than two screen taps away.
That large screen means the Samsung i8910 HD is quite a sizeable phone, and a relatively heavy one too.
Verdict
The Samsung i8910 HD offers an array of multimedia rich features built into this large-screened, fully touch capable mobile phone. It’s a cracking phone and is certainly on a par with the Nokia N97 but simply can’t match it in terms of the choice of apps or usability.
