The Advent 4214 is a netbook that adds to PC World’s in-house range of devices with a degree of style at a great price. This 10.1-inch netbook weighs in at just 1.3kg, packs in a decent sized keyboard and a bright screen at a budget price. Check out our Advent 4214 review to see how it handles in the real world….
The netbook craze doesn’t seem to show any signs of abating just yet, with the Advent 4214 being the fourth such device to be released by PC World. This latest model takes a fairly typical approach coming with a 10.1-inch screen that has a standard 1024 x 600-pixel resolution.
Weighing 1.3kg, we found it a compact and light device to carry around. The plastic casing feels nice to the touch and while it’s not the most original of designs, we found it solid and reliable to the touch.
The specification is very much what we’ve come to expect from a netbook and comprises the Windows XP operating system. Powered by an Intel Atom N270, 1024MB of memory and packing in a 160GB hard drive, there is enough here to keep you working on the move.
The Advent 4214 isn’t powerful enough to replace your standard laptop but we found worked well enough for watching DivX movies and word processing. Unlike the Advent 4213, which it shares a similar size to, you won’t find 3G built-in, so if you want to make the most of this netbook you’ll need to add a Mobile Broadband dongle.
Battery life is a little basic at three hours from the standard 3-cell pack. Connectivity includes three USB ports, a VGA-out connector for hooking up a larger screen when at your desk, as well as Wi-Fi.
Verdict
The Advent 4214 is another netbook that isn’t exactly breaking the mould but it’s a decent machine for the price.
