The Nokia N97 is a touchscreen smartphone aimed at those who need to stay constantly in touch. This is Nokia’s flagship device, so you’ll find it packed with all the latest features but with a full QWERTY keyboard, it’s clearly aimed at professionals instead of casual users. So, does the Nokia N97 stack up and is it worth investing in? Check out our Nokia N97 review and find out….
The Nokia N97 is a great looking smartphone that sits neatly in the hand. The design is simple and sleek with the minimum amount of keys on the main body, almost forcing you to get to grips with the touchscreen. Weighing 150g, it’s heavier than a standard phone but it’s pretty much in keeping with what we expect from a smartphone.
The slide out keyboard is held in place by a latch, something the Nokia E75 lacks, which helps keep the device stable when using it in candybar mode. Click the button and you can slide out the QWERTY keyboard on an impressive and neatly designed hinge.
The keyboard, as we’ve said, is full QWERTY, and also comes with a navigation pad on the left-hand side. The keys feel great but our one criticism is there seems to be quite a lot of space that could have been used by having slightly larger keys
When it comes to features, it has everything the latest smartphone should have. The 3.5-inch display is a touchscreen panel and it looks sharp and bright. While some may bemoan the lack of an AMOLED display, we think Nokia has done a great job with the N97 display, as images look sharp and it’s easy to navigate.
You’ll find a 5-Megpixel camera onboard, which uses a Carl Zeiss lens and unlike the Nokia 5800, there is a lens cover. Also packed onboard is GPS, so you can geo-tag images and video. Then there is Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as standard for transferring images and other files.
Verdict
The Nokia N97 is a great phone but it isn’t ideal for everyone. This is clearly a business phone, aimed at those who need to email and stay and touch and while the multimedia features work exceedingly well, we feel first-time users may well find it a little frustrating to get to grips with straight from the box. That said, experienced Nokia users will love it!
