Nokia 5800 v Nokia N97 - photo shoot-out

The Nokia 5800 was the first Nokia touchscreen phone but with the imminent release of the Nokia N97, it’s about to get a very tempting rival. How do both of these devices stack up against each other? Join us as we take a look at the Nokia N97 and how it compares to the Nokia 5800 in photo shoot-out…

The Nokia 5800 may have been the first Nokia to have a touchscreen display but it certainly won’t be the last. Later this month it’ll be joined by the Nokia N97, which is being touted as Nokia’s new flagship device.

The Nokia 5800 comes with a 3.2-inch touchscreen that delivers a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. The design is very much aimed at the mass consumer, with a solid plastic design with an emphasis on sound quality – the angled body helps give sound a bassier sound.

When it comes to features you’ll find 3.2-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and auto focus and Dual LED flash.

The Nokia N97 uses the same Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system but as you can see from our hands-on pics, it has a brand new Homescreen that allows you to easily swap and change all your favourite apps and widgets onto the front page.

When it comes to tech spec, the Nokia N97 comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen that delivers the same resolution of 640 x 360 pixels. However, when it comes to design, the Nokia N97 is very much aimed at the business user. The metal body is sleek and refined and while the phone is heavier, it doesn’t feel heavily so.

When it comes to features you’ll find 35-Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and auto focus and Dual LED flash. However, where the Nokia N97 really differs is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard that makes emails and messaging so, so easy to handle.

Both the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia N97 come with HSPDA, EDGE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as standard. You’ll even find GPS with geo-tagging built in as standard. Both phones make full use of Ovi Store, Nokia’s one-stop shop for all Nokia smartphone apps, games and Themes. However, the Nokia N97 is the first phone to come with Ovi Store built in by default.
