Thinking of getting a new smartphone this summer but not sure which one to wait for? Well, with at least five amazing machines set to launch, even if the sun never shines, it looks like being one of the hottest summers for smartphones yet. So, check out the Nokia N97, Samsung i8910, HTC Touch Pro2, Palm Pre and even the Nokia N86 8MP as we look at the best smartphones for the summer…
Summer is just around the corner and this year looks like being the hottest yet as FIVE killer smartphones are due for release. We’ve already seem the HTC Magic launch, which is set to rival the T-Mobile G1 in the Google Android stakes but what else can we look forward to?
Set to be the flagship Nokia for the summer and the year ahead, the Nokia N97 is only the company’s second touchscreen phone – after the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, but it’s already high on how hit list. The 3.5-inch touchscreen, 5-Megapixel camera and built-in Wi-Fi and GPS make this a killer combination.
Hotly tipped as the smartphone to beat the Nokia N97, the i8910 also runs the same S60 5th Edition operating system but comes with a whopping 3.7-inch AMOLED screen as well as an 8-Megapixel camera. When it comes to push and shove, this phone seems to have it all, but we’re kind of missing the QWERTY keyboard the Nokia N97 has.
The HTC Touch Pro2 is set to give the Nokia N97 a run for its money too, with its take on the slide-out QWERTY. The keys are large and spacious and because they’re hidden away, you only need activate when you’ve something important to get across. Then there is the 3.6-inch, which has a great 480 x 800-pixel resolution. It’s also touch-sensitive so you’ll be able to get instant access to your email, web browser and other favourite apps. The screen gives you instant access to the HTC TouchFLO 3D interface that makes the most of the Windows Mobile OS. This could well be the surprise hit of the summer.
The Palm Pre seems to have caused a stir this year but we’re still yet to see it in action. The pebble design looks fantastic and as it’s been ergonomically designed to suit the way people speak into a phone, it’ll offer a comfortable phone experience. For when you want to work, it comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that is tactile and easy to use. Overall, the Palm Pre is an exciting new venture for the company but may well prove the least hot.
Nokia N86 8MP
Some are calling this an grade of the Nokia N95 but for our money this could well be the real deal, as this 8-Megapixel camera with OLED screen offers everything the Samsung i8910 has to offer but with Nokia’s usual style and aplomb, it’ll be a whole lot easier to use. You can load your images straight to Ovi Share or other favourite photo sites, What’s more, with Ovi Store launching this summer too, you’ll be able to get a whole host of extra apps.
So, there you have it, the best smartphones for the summer of 2009. Whether hot or not, this year we’ve a real bumper crop to choose from – which one do you think you’ll be opting for? Let us know in the Comments below.
