The Nokia 2730 could well be the world’s cheapest 3G smartphone, as Nokia is set to roll it out to emerging markets where high-end phones may not be needed, or cost-effective. However, this isn’t a stripped down phone, far from it, as the entry-level 3G phone would have been regarded as cutting-edge only a few years ago.
The Nokia 2730 classic would have been cutting edge just a few years ago, but this new 3G handset from Nokia is the cheapest 3G phone around and has been ear-marked for emerging markets.
A sleek and trim design, the Nokia 2730 classic is a candybar phone that looks like the kind of device people would have loved as an upgrade only a couple of years ago. Alongside the decent 3G connectivity data speeds, the Nokia 2730 comes with a 2-inch QVGA screen that may seem small compared to the likes of the Nokia N79 or Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, but it’s perfectly fine.
Extra features include a 2-Megapixel camera, Bluetooth and Stereo FM radio. Ovi Mail comes as standard too, as does Nokia’s Life Tools. Then there is the 3.3 Hours of talktime (or about 17 days in standby mode) to any of the 1000 contacts the expanded phonebook can hold.
The Nokia 2730 classic isn’t about to break any records for the best featured smartphone around but as an entry-level 3G device, it’s got enough power packed in to more than love up to people’s expectations.
