The T-Mobile G1 Android smartphone started receiving it’s first major update a few days ago, taking the software to Android Version 1.5. If you already own the T-Mobile G1 Android smartphone the update should appear automatically. If you’ve not loaded the update yet then check out the array of new features that have been added, as well as the number of improvements that have been added to the device.
Screen
The screen on the T-Mobile G1 now has a new onscreen keyboard, making emails and even longer texts a lot easier to handle. This keyboard works in both Portrait and Landscape modes and there is even support now for third-party keyboards.
System
The system itself now comes with a new Linux kernel, version 2.6.27, which adds a great deal of stability to the G1, as well as offering auto-checking and repair of an SD memory cards you may use with the device.
Widgets
Widgets have been expanded and a larger number bundled with the device, including analog clock, calendar, music player, picture frame, and search. The improved browser allows for cut & paste functions, as well as allowing users to search with a page for specific words. While the video camera offers improved recording and playback capabilities.
Contacts
Your Contacts will now use pictures for Favourites and gives a one-touch access to Contact Cards. Also, this update allows for date/time stamps for all calls made, so you can keep track of when you were last in touch with people.
