The Nokia 7100 Supernova doesn’t lay claims to do anything especially innovative or fancy. Which is just as well, really, as it is a pretty average kind of mobile. It does have a rather swanky look, though, thanks to a swatch of colour adorning its otherwise black shell.
With the Nokia 7100 Supernova, you can opt for either a bright turquoise blue or what Nokia calls ‘jelly red’ but what we think is rather more shocking pink. In both cases a band of colour sits under the screen and occupies all of the backplate. There is a third colour option in which the handset is mostly black with a blue frame to the Navi key.
If you are after a cameraphone you might be well advised to look elsewhere as the one here tops out at 1.3 megapixels and we found it didn’t perform all that well, especially in low light conditions. You might also shop around if music is your thing. The 2.5mm headset jack is disappointing and with 4MB of internal memory and no flash support you are left with Bluetooth or over the air downloads for music. The FM radio is handy, though.
Still, there are some plusses here. This is a quad-band handset with a super Web browser. Opera Mini does a great job of making the most of the 2.0-inch screen. And as a slider the phone is fairly neat for the pocket. The number pad under the slider is large and responsive, and the same can be said for the front keys and the navi key.
Battery life is rated fairly well too, at up to 8 hours 31 minutes of talk, 454 hours standby and 12 hours 14 minutes of music playback.
Verdict
The Nokia 7100 Supernova may not be bursting with specs and may lack the ability to boost internal memory, but the 7100 Supernova looks distinctive and has a competent Web browser.
