The BBC is trialling live TV streaming on the Nokia 5800 smartphone. It has been revealed this morning that the Beeb, here in the UK at least, has released a Beta version of its Live TV version for mobile users.
Check out how to watch TV on your Nokia 5800 after the break…
If you own a Nokia 5800 smartphone and have been using the BBC iPlayer service to watch pre-shown programmes over Wi-Fi, well you may in interested to know you can stream live TV on the Nokia 5800 over the internet.
The BBC has started trialling the service and went live with it this morning. If this sounds like something you’d like to try, point your Nokia 5800’s browser to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/live/tv/ where you will be presented with a warning page, informing you that best results can be delivered over Wi-Fi.
Click on Continue and you’ll find yourself on the Live TV Beta page. From here you can choose the channels available. The programme will buffer and start up in RealPlayer, just like the iPlayer shows do. It takes a few seconds for the images to start showing but audio kicks into life almost right awa
If you want to use the service, make sure of your data allowances under the terms of your contract as streaming live TV over your phone could be costly.
We’ve no word on whether the service will work with other handsets, as we’ve only seen it work on the Nokia 5800. There is also no word from the BBC when the service will be officially announced.
