The MSI Wind netbook, better known to some as the Advent 4211c, has been given a major overhaul and updated to the MSI Wind U115 Hybrid, with the company claiming a battery life that delivers over 12 hours from a single charge.
What’s more, this netbook is also the first such portable to come with two hard drives - one Solid State Disc (SSD), while the other is a standard 160GB HDD.
The MSI Wind U115 Hybrid may look like any other netbook but this 1.5kg, has a few secrets under the hood that make it a little more unique.
For instance, it comes with MSI’s own Hybrid Storage Technology which enables the usage of SSD and hard drives simultaneously, resulting in a longer battery life. It is even possible to deactivate the HDD by a simple shortcut on the keyboard, while continuing working on the SSD.
The MSI Wind U115 Hybrid has a 10.1-inch display, with standard 1024 x 600-pixel resolution. Powered by the Intel Atom Processor Z530 (1.60GHz) it uses the new Intel US15W, which helps limit battery usage while at the same time offering HD support on-die.
You’ll find a 2.8GB SSD module installed, which allows for a faster bootup time, as well as a standard 160GB HDD for storing your files. The OS is the now standard Windows XP Home.
The MSI Wind U115 Hybrid has an 802.11n Wi-Fi, ass well as Bluetooth, so you can access the internet at any time. It includes a 4 in 1 Card Reader and three USB 2.0 ports, making it easy to upload digital files and connect to external devices.
But how does it come with an amazing 12 hour battery life? In MSI’s own tests they can the U115 Hybrid in a configuration based on using the SSD + LCD enabled, HDD disabled, 6-cell battery , while the WLAN, Bluetooth and webcam were disabled, while the speakers were muted and maximum power saving enabled.
The MSI Wind U115 Hybrid will be available from May for £499.
