Apple iPhone users will soon be able to make free calls using Skype as the service is set to debut on the smartphone killer tomorrow. It’s taken longer than expected but Skype will launch tomorrow for the Apple iPhone and be available as a free download.
In related news, we can also expect the same Skype service to start shipping on BlackBerry devices from May.
Skype has confirmed that it will be realising its own Skype client for the Apple iPhone on Tuesday of this week. Skype for iPhone is Wi-Fi only for all domestic VoIP calls but it looks as though it’s other key features are all in place. Skype for iPhone offers IM (Instant Messaging) services between subscribed users, as well as Conference Call functions.
Skype for iPhone will also have a link to let owners buy SkypeOut credit using the iPhone’s Safari web browser, so Skype for iPhone can also make cut-price calls to landlines and non-Skype numbers.
In a similar move, Skype for BlackBerry will be made available online in May. There is no further news on what this app will offer but we hope it delivers more than just Wi-Fi only support like Skype for iPhone, otherwise the BlackBerry Storm won’t be able to take advantage of the service.
