Get more from your Nokia E71

The Nokia E71 is one of the most robust and versatile smartphones that Nokia has release to-date. The large screen and easy to use QWERTY keyboard make it perfect for getting the most from the internet and email, as well as all the normal things you’d do with your phone.

Getting it to work the way you want it to takes a little time but we’ve put together a few top tips to help you get the most from your Nokia E71.

The Nokia E71 is a great handset for email and keeping in touch with others. Nokia has done a large amount of the work for you, making it easy to set up and get to grips with. However, we all use our phones in different ways, so getting it to work the way you want it takes just a few steps.

Getting started
1: Get used to the Home key, not only does it always bring you back to the start, simply press the key lightly and you’ll have access to the menu as well as the Home screen. However, press the Home key down and it’ll show you a list of all the applications you already have open, so you can quickly switch between them.

2: Managing your Contacts is easy with the Nokia E71, as one click on the icon will instantly open the list view of all your contacts. If you want to add a new entry, then simply hold the key down for a couple of seconds.

3: To help further manage your contacts you can add a personalised ring tone to each one. To do this, go to Options > Ringing tone and choose from the list. In much the same way you can group different contacts together. Go to Options > Group > Add to group contacts together, such as Work, Home etc.

4: Keeping on top of your busy schedule is easy with Calendar. Simply press the button lightly and you’ll launch the app in one click. Use a long press on the button and you can immediately enter a new meeting or calendar entry without having to open the app itself.

5: What would an email machine be without instant access to your messages? So, Nokia has fitted an Email button to instantly open the app. If you just want to write a new email, simply hold the key down and a empty mail will appear ready for you to start typing.

Personalise the Home screen
The beauty of having any phone is that you can make it yours and use it in the way you want to. With the Nokia E71 there are a number of ways you can personalise it. However, the way to do it is pretty much standard. Go to Menu > Tools > Modes. Modes allows you to changes the basic settings and get a more personal feel to the E71.

As we want to personalise the Home screen, choose Home Screen Apps from the menu and you’ll be presented with a list of the apps that have been pre-installed on the handset. Once you’ve downloaded and installed a few more programs you’ll also find them added to this list.

Simply pick from this list and once you go back to the Home screen you’ll see these have now been added. To quickly change from one home screen to another, in standby mode, select  Switch mode (the top right icon) from the application shortcuts.
