The Nokia 7210 is the entry-level model in the manufacturer’s bright and breezy Supernova fashion phone quartet, aimed at those fun-loving fashionistas on a thrift store budget. It’s essentially the Nokia 7310, sans the colourful clip-on customisable covers but with a 10.6mm size zero profile.
In fact, the 7210’s design is vaguely reminiscent of the Nokia 5000 and 5310 XpressMusic blowers - slimline and very lightweight. Granted, it’s not as well made but its soft-paint finish makes it tactile to paw while it arrives in four tasteful colour combos – the more sedate Graphite and Vivid Blue finishes for the alpha male and female friendly Bubble Gum Pink and Passionate Purple.
Unsurprisingly, the 7210 is extremely user-friendly, running off Nokia’s intuitive Symbian Series 40 interface. This lets you run a customisable shortcut bar on the homescreen while a Go to soft key give further instant access to popular features with a touch of a button. It may not look it but the pressure pad keypad is also sweet to thumb.
Under the hood, the 7210 runs a tidy set of features. The autofocus bereft two megapixel snapper is pretty basic but it neatly lets you upload your photos to your online Flickr account. Video capture is similarly limited, shooting in a judder-tastic 176×144 pixel resolution and while there’s no 3G on the menu, EDGE-styled download speeds are adequate for most user’s web browsing needs.
You don’t really expect the music player on budget phones to sound much cop but the 7210 is surprisingly above average. It features a seven mode equaliser to tinker with the audio and is perfectly listenable in short bursts. The 2.5mm headphone jack means you’re restricted to using the bundle earphones; not completely ideal but not a major inconvenience either.
Nokia has also recommended using microSD cards up to a maximum 2GB to handle your tunes and other multimedia clobber and this equates to around 1,000 average quality MP3 files encoded at 128Kbps.
