Garmin and Asus are set to collaborate on their first smartphone, the Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 and we could see it in this country as soon as April or May. Facts and figures on the slinky smartphone are still thin on the ground but it’ll come with a 3.5-inch touchscreen and handle Mobile Broadband with ease.
Garmin may be the masters of sat-nav and have dabbled with unconnected PDAs before but when it comes to creating its first smartphone, it’s teamed up with Asus, who through it’s Eee PC netbooks, know all about getting the latest tech inside the smallest body.
As you would expect from a Garmin product, GPS is high on the hit list but it’ll come with a host of features, including quad-band voice, tri-band data support, so you can use it just about anywhere. There will be a full HTML browser and location-based applications, including real-time traffic information, gas prices, flight times, weather and more will all come as standard.
The website is claiming that it’ll offer ‘one-step navigation from contacts, email and local search results’ as well as a feature its calling, “Where am I?” - this safety feature flashes up your current location and nearest police, hospital and fuel services.
Full specs and details aren’t expected until Mobile World Congress, which starts in Barcelona on the 16th February.
