Microsoft may have been a little quiet of late but we’re a feeling that Windows Mobile 6.5 may well be imminent. The latest version of the smartphone OS has been spotted in the wild and running on a HTC handset.
However, the big news is that this version comes with the all-new honeycomb application launcher. What’s that, you ask? Read on and find out…
The honeycomb app launcher places your icons automatically in order of those most frequently used. It gets its name as the apps are placed in a honeycomb pattern, which should make it easier for you to move your thumb over and navigate to the right one.
The idea is that it’ll make Windows Mobile phones as easy to use as the iPhone, for instance. We’ve also been informed that is will also make installation of new apps a lot smoother too but this may well be just a rumour at this stage.
If you’re curious as to the device it’s running on, that is the HTC Exeda, a new business-class phone with mini-trackpad, and a bunch of features including USB and Ethernet ports.
We’re expecting more Windows Mobile 6.5 announcements from Microsoft at next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, along with a host of new devices to support it.
