The 2009 Consumer Electronic Show has just kicked off in Las Vegas, and among the gadgety goodness getting its debut is a triple threat of new Motorola handsets, each of which is interesting in its own way.
First up is the Surf A3100, a rounded, pebble-shaped phone running Windows Mobile 6.1 and sporting a 2.8-inch touchscreen. Also on board is assisted GPS, HSDPA 3G offering up to 7.2Mbps download speeds, Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth and a 3-megapixel camera, plus support for microSD cards up 32GB capacity.
Eco-friendly phone users will flock to the Renew W233, meanwhile, which is the first ever mobile to be made from recycled water bottles (!), and Motorola also offsets any carbon consumption that results from its production, shipping and use. Spec-wise it’s an entry-level, dual band GSM/EDGE phone with basic messaging features and support for 2GB microSD cards.
Last but not least is the Tundra VA76r, a ruggedised clamshell offering a 3.2Mbps HSDPA data connection, 2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, a-GPS and support for 4GB microSD cards. But perhaps it’s headlining feature is push-to-talk, which basically allows it to act as a two-way radio or walkie-talkie with similarly equipped handsets.
We don’t have pricing or availability info on any of these phones just yet, and there’s no guarantee that all of them will launch in the UK, but we’ll keep an eye out for more developments.
