The introduction of full-on touchscreens aside, mobile phone design hasn’t changed much in the past ten years - but an upcoming device from LG looks set to kick off a whole new species of handset. Or perhaps we should say “wristset”, as the GD910 is a wristwatch that doubles as a proper 3G communications device.
Launching at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and slated for a European release later in 2009, the GD910 boasts a 1.4-inch touchscreen, camera, Bluetooth, MP3 playback, a high speed web browser and text-to-speech commands, so it’s no pushover in the feature stakes.
It also sports a speakerphone function, naturally, so you won’t have to hold your mouth an inch from your wrist every time somebody calls. We imagine there’ll also be a wireless headset, which is a much more convenient (not to mention less embarrassing) way to converse with your friends than barking into thin air.
Availability: 2009
Price: £TBC
Basic specs: 1.4-inch touchscreen, video camera, Bluetooth, 3G
Killer feature: It’s a phone squeezed into a wristwatch!
