Google’s Street View, which lets you access street level images of almost any location on a map, has finally come to mobile phones running on the Windows Mobile and S60 platforms.
Already available on Android, iPhone and BlackBerry, Street View is designed to help users orient themselves when looking for a particular location using Google Maps for mobile - so now you can search for a coffee shop near your location, select one you think looks good, hit the “Street View” option and you’ll see a picture of the place. The snap is panoramic, so you can rotate your view 360 degrees.
Street View is only one of several new features included in version 2.3 of Google Maps for mobile. It can now deliver walking directions (in addition to the existing driving and public transport directions) and traffic alerts where possible, and now includes user reviews of businesses and services. To download it for your mobile, point your browser at google.com/gmm.
