The BBC’s iPlayer catch-up service is heading to a trio of Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones in the next few days, the broadcaster has revealed.
Taking the form of a special portal giving the user access to live TV and radio as well as most programmes from the previous seven days, the app is similar to the one already available for the Nokia N96. Additionally, the Beeb says the Nokia app will soon be compatible with the N85 handset.
BBC mobile technology head Jon Billings said the C905, Xperia X1 and Omnia have been selected because “they hit our requirements of Wi-Fi and 3G support with great browsing and media playback experience, and it’s also great to broaden our platform support out to Windows Mobile smartphones, as well as our first feature phone offering on the C905.”
The iPlayer portal will be making its way on to other mobile devices in the coming weeks, according to the BBC. We’ll bring you details as we get them.
