Nokia N97 smashes other smartphones to pieces
It’s big, it’s bad and it’s just been announced this morning: it’s Nokia’s N96-beater, the N97. If the name isn’t mind-blowing, the specs truly are, squeezing a 3.5-inch touchscreen, hidden hinged QWERTY keyboard and 32GB of storage into a phone far thinner than an N95 8GB. Pick up your jaw off the floor and check out all the pictures here.
Orange to launch HD mobile TV
Technically, it’s not true HD, but network provider Orange is planning on upping the resolution for a new mobile TV service with over 60 channels. No word on a release date just yet, but the first compatible phone will be the LG Secret KF757, and the software will even feature an EPG, and the ability to channel hop. We can’t wait!

Nokia Maps gets upgraded
Ask any Nokia Nseries owner and they’ll testify that they can’t go back to a life without GPS software Nokia Maps. It’s just become even more of a lifesaver though, with recognisable 3D landmarks, speed limit warnings and live traffic info all added in the new version, 3.0, which has just been made available to download at Nokia’s Beta Labs site. Plus it now works with Nokia’s online Ovi service, which lets you plan your routes on PC and sync the data with your handset for free.

Holograms on the HTC Touch HD
This has to be seen to be believed: one entrepreneurial developer has got stunning virtual reality software VR Hologram up and running on a HTC Touch HD. If you want to see it in action, follow the link through, or if you’re really feeling risky, check out the instructions here. You’ve been warned though.

Surf the mobile internet for shrapnel
If you’re much less of a multimedia user but like to check Facebook and your emails frequently, Virgin Mobile’s new internet tariff could be for you. It’s just 30p a day for 25MB of data, and while that won’t get you much video, for casual surfing it’s plenty, and plenty cheap too.
