If you thought your current five megapixeler was cutting edge, then think again - Samsung is planning on bettering the current 8 megapixel camerphones by bumping up the dot count to a staggering 12 megapixels.
When it’ll be available for phone use is unclear, but in the meantime it’s also working on a 8 megapixel part that includes a 3x optical zoom.
Apparently we can expect to see that in handsets early 2009 - hopefully that’ll be enough to give it an edge on the competition. Samsung was first to get the 8 megapixel i8510 into the market, but it was quickly joined by many rivals.
