Mobile phones are used for so much more than simply making phone calls these days, and the next talent pushed into the spotlight looks set to be e-book and audio book compatibility: Vodafone has launched a brand new service allowing customers to download digitised literary tomes direct to their handset.
Dubbed “Books on Mobile” and launched in conjunction with mobile phone audio book emporium GoSpoken.com, the service offers a wide range of audio books for direct download - publishers including Random House, HarperCollins and Penguin are on board. A three-hour book can be downloaded in around three minutes (via Wi-Fi or HSDPA), and prices range from £5 to £15 - with the cost added to your monthly Vodafone bill.
E-books (which are text-based) will be available in a few weeks, with prices yet to be confirmed.
