The Apple iPhone 3G’s iTunes App Store may be in a class of its own at the moment, but RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry Storm will be getting a dedicated software download store of its own.
Dubbed the Application Center (or App Center for short), the in-phone store will allow Storm users to browse and install third party BlackBerry applications.
According to a report on UberPhones, the service is designed to work slickly with the Storm’s touch screen user interface. App Center puts games and other apps in one place, meaning users don’t have to venture online on their PC to grab software. The main screen will deliver a list of all the apps available, and more info on a particular one can be accessed by tapping it. Like what you see and want to install it? One more finger tap is all that’s required.
The BlackBerry Storm is launching very soon in the US, and should follow shortly after here in the UK - although it will probably be called the Thunder on this side of the Atlantic. We’d expect App Center to be available from day one.
