The search engine giant’s move into mobiles is coming to the fore with the unveiling of its very own phone application store called Android Market.
True to its name it’ll be an open market where developers will be able to make their own apps for phone toting customers to purchase.
The word from Google is that it’ll operate in a similar vein to popular vid site YouTube, with users able to review and rate the apps on offer.
But the real difference to Apple’s own App Store is that the open source platform will allow other developers to make their own apps to appear on the Android Market.
To start with, only free apps will be available as Google gradually introduces a payment system. No pricing details have slipped through yet though.
Google aren’t the only ones getting app happy. Earlier Windows let slip details its new Skymarket app store.
